HANOI (Commodity Online) : Vietnam, one of the world's leading rice exporters, said there would be no rice shortage for export this year. According to country's agriculture ministry, strong foreign demand has pushed up reference prices of export-standard rice by $50 per tonne. The ministry said there is still one million tonnes of rice in stock. Furthermore, the commercial rice volume will increase in the upcoming harvest.

Lần gần đây nhất khoảng cách giá giữa 2 loại lương thực này rộng như hiện nay là vào tháng 2/2008, 2 tháng trước khi giá gạo lập kỷ lục cao bởi khủng hoảng lương thực toàn cầu gây bạo loạn ở nhiều nơi trên thế giới, từ Haiti tới Ai Cập. Hạn hán ỏư Thái Lan và lũ lụt ở Pakistan – nơi chiếm tổng cộng 43% tổng xuát khẩu gạo toàn cầu – cũng đang đe doạ nguồn cung lúa gạo.

 China is expected to harvest a record cereals crop this year as most harvests escaped damage from the worst flooding in a decade, the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization said. The country’s overall output of grains will rise to 486.1 million metric tons from 483.4 million tons in 2009, boosted by higher corn and rice production, the Rome-based UN agency said in a report dated Aug. 28 and published on its website today.

The Bangladeshi government has approved a proposal for importing 130,000 tons of rice for 3.74 billion taka (about 53 million U.S. dollars) to increase food stock, local leading English newspaper The Daily Star reported Friday. The decision was made at a meeting of the cabinet committee on economic purchase, chaired by Finance Minister AMA Muhith, on Thursday. 100,000 tons of rice will be bought from Vietnam on the basis of a state-to-state deal for 2.27 billion taka (about 32 million U. S. dollars). Private importers will provide the rest of the amount.
