Roxas City (19 April) -- The province of Capiz will be expecting 35,000 bags more of imported rice from the National Food Authority central office. Capiz NFA designated Information Officer Jose Davila, Jr. disclosed that the said volume of rice is part of the 45,000 imported rice allocation of their office to food agency in Capiz. He said that this is part of the buffer stock of their agency to the province in augmentation to the local rice stock here through their intensive palay procurement program in the province.

 Davila said that the 10,000 bags of imported rice allocation already arrived earlier in the province and are being stocked at their Roxas City warehouse.

On the other hand, NFA Administrator Jessup Navarro revealed that a total of 1.29 million metric tons (MMT) of imported rice has arrived with 1 MMT already in the agency's warehouses.

Navarro said that some 299,653 metric tons (MT) are presently being unloaded in several ports across the country and another 328,851 MT are already in transit to the Philippines.

He added that as of the first week of April, the agency has some 30 million bags rice inventory sufficient for 42 days food security requirement based on the country's daily rice consumption rate of 726,000 bags. (PIA) [top]
