MANILA (Dow Jones)--The Philippines has bought 72,000 metric tons of rice from the U.S., a senior official of the National Food Authority said Thursday.

  The rice, involving long grain 4% broken, will be for shipment between June and September this year.

  The bulk of the rice was awarded to Archer Daniels Midland Co. (ADM) The contract price ranged between US$838-US$840/ton, free on board basis.

  The NFA, however, is still negotiating for freight costs, currently ranging from US$218-US$230/ton, Pacific Northwest loadport.
