Từ ngày 15/8, các loại gạo xuất khẩu sẽ chịu thuế suất tuyệt đối từ 800.000 đồng đến 2,9 triệu đồng một tấn tùy loại. Riêng gạo có giá xuất dưới 800 USD một tấn chưa nằm trong diện áp thuế. Như vậy, việc đánh thuế đối với gạo xuất khẩu loại dưới 800 USD một tấn theo quyết định ban hành ngày 23/7 vừa qua không còn hiệu lực.Các loại gạo từ 800 USD đến 900 USD một tấn sẽ chịu thuế 800.000 đồng một tấn. Loại gạo có giá từ 900 USD đến 1.000 USD một tấn chịu thuế 1,2 triệu đồng. Loại có giá 1.300 USD trở lên có mức thuế tuyệt đối 2,9 triệu đồng.

BACOLOD CITY – Prices of commercial rice in Negros Occidental were expected to fall to their lowest levels in months with the arrival of 100,000 bags of Thai rice.Marianito Bejemino, National Food Authority (NFA) provincial manager, said the NFA started unloading on Thursday 100,000 bags of Thai rice at the BREDCO port in Bacolod City.
Bejemino said another 100,000 bags of rice are arriving before the end of the month.
As a result of the additional rice supply, prices were expected to drop to a range of P26-P28 per kg, he said.

MILAN (Reuters) - The United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) has raised its forecast of 2008 world paddy rice production by more than 1 million tonnes to 668 million tonnes after improved harvests in India and some other major producers.
The 2008 world production is 1.5 percent higher than a record output of 658 million tonnes in 2007, FAO said in a rice report released late on Friday.
"The abundant new 2007 paddy crops together with good prospects for the 2008 paddy season are easing the global rice market situation after world prices had jumped to record levels in April and May 2008," the Rome-based agency said

HANOI: Vietnam has revised up its annual rice export target by around two percent, aiming to ship up to 4.6 million tonnes of rice this year in an attempt to arrest falling domestic prices, the government said.
The upward revision of the annual target would mean Vietnam could ship slightly more than the 4.5 million tonnes exported last year when it was the world’s third-largest exporter of the grain after Thailand and India.
